Mr Dickens and His Carol A Novel Samantha Silva Books

A fun and whimsical tale that blends fiction with nonfiction in this account of Dickens' life at the time he pens his "little Christmas book" that would change the world forever! We find Dickens at his nadir: book sales have declined, critics have lost hope, his family left, and his extended family has nearly reduced him to the poorhouse; that is until he meets his muse, Eleanor Lovejoy, who reminds him of the meaning of Christmas and inspires his beloved classic.

While this book is purely a work of fiction, Samantha Silva weaves many facts from the author's life and fancifully blends the cast of characters from both with many an homage to the classics we've all read and have come to love.

With a few surprises at the end, "Mr. Dickens and His Carol" is an enchanting and delightful story that is filled with heart and the spirit of Christmas. Be assured of happy tears at the end too! A charming read for all Dickens fans, not only during the holidays but throughout the year as well.

Mr Dickens and His Carol A Novel Samantha Silva Books Reviews

A lovely story for fans of Dickens , now and in the future. The images of Christmas and of Dicken's London are wonderful and the book is the best Christmas card possible, filled with warmest seasonal wishes and hopes for a better tomorrow. A gift to be shared with friends and relatives.
Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol is the undisputed greatest story about Christmas and humankind. That novel has stood the test of time and has never been seriously challenged by other holiday novels.

Samantha Silva has captured the very essence of the story and it's author, Charles Dickens. As someone who has read all of Dickens' works, and the Christmas Carol dozens of times and having seen every movie and television version of this classic, I can assure you that I expected to be most critical of the author, Silva.

I am so pleased to report that this novel embellishe
Don't expect this book to bear more than a cursory resemblance to details of Dickens' life, though the story does pick out hallmarks of mid-nineteenth century life in London that seem about right. Just accept the book as an imaginative and charming amalgam that proposes scenes in the life of a harried writer that may have inspired a great Christmas story. Some of the incidents seem a bit forced to include names or situations that appear in "A Christmas Carol", and the book drags a bit in the middle. There are times when one wonders whether a scene is advancing the story. Nonetheless, there is good fun throughout and a clever dream sequence. By the last 50 pages one is engrossed and rooting for Dickens' success in writing his Christmas story, for the happy return of his family, and for a most convivial Christmas party at the Dickens' home.
Mr. Dickens And His Carol is utterly charming. Every time I opened this book and cozied up with it, I felt like I might be walking along those cobblestoned London streets. Samantha Silva is such a talented writer and I truly loved every single word she wrote! I look forward to everything she hopefully writes in the future. Definitely make this a new Christmas classic you read again and again. Perfection! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book belongs to that classification known as "Historical Fiction." Meaning while the facts of the event are known the everyday happenings of such an event may not be so through fictional recreation the story is brought out not only to relay to the reader the facts of the story but done so in an entertaining way. I hope I've got that right.

I'd have to say that this is a commendable first effort for the author. Near the end she pulls on the heart strings. Not bad. If you like reading Dickens and his novel " A Christmas Carol" then I believe that this is well worth your time.
First, I look forward to reading "A Christmas Carol" every year. Second, I read the book knowing that it was a fiction book. With those points in consideration, I couldn't bring myself to finish this book. First, I wish the author had included some notes about what parts were true and what parts were not. Obviously, dialogue and scenes are part of the fiction, but I found myself wondering which of the people were true. Also, I really didn't like that the author wrote as though Charles Dickens' inspiration came from a woman he wanted to have an affair with. Maybe I'm naive and should subscribe to the advice that you shouldn't read a biography about your hero. While the author has a flair for the descriptive scenes and ambiance, I found the book depressing and slow.
Absolutely magical! And the Audible version is, without question, the best narration I have heard. I read Dicken's "A Christmas Carol" every year and watch the old "Scrooge"movies, so I found this charming story of Mr. Dickens, surrounded by a Victorian Christmas in London, just wonderful! I could not wait to get back in my car for long commutes so I could listen to the story unfold (and the narrator's lively accents).A beautiful, heartwarming story with well written prose and magical descriptions. A new classic I will listen to this every year from now on!
