This was co-written with my great, great grandfather and has all the data from the original book. The only thing missing is the maps that came with the original book. I'm so glad this is offered in soft-bound as it saves the wear on my original. It's a great viewpoint of what happened during the wars both amusing and sometimes hard to read.Product details

Well written and easy to understand. Great roster in back of book for all known members of unit. Covers the 3rd Battalion that became the Independent Battalion as well.
Book was in excellent condition. Reading to learn more of my 2nd Great Grandfather's 18 months of service in the Civil War.
I was very much disappointed that the publisher of this 'out of print' book did not print the map referenced in the book that showed the movements of the 1st Mass Cav in Virginia and Maryland. The product description of the book on the website says that it is an 'exact' copy of the book, apparently obtained from the Library of Congress. At the very least, and the Publisher should correct their Product Description to point out that the map referenced in the book is NOT INCLUDED.
Otherwise, the book was excellent. The map would have made it outstanding.
This book not only chronicles the hardships and private feelings of those who served, but shares some of humor including the relationship with their horses and the exchanges between the north and the south. It shares and documents what they ate, their weapons, is a wonderful way to find information of ancestors who served (which is how I found the book). This book has whetted my appetite for more knowledge of the civil war.
