I didn't like her very much at first because she is your typical cheerleader, loved by everyone - a very typical character for me. But trust me, it gets better. She is quite bearable so leave your preconceived notions aside.

Kalina is dating the sexy and brooding Aaron, a closet vampire and one of the last remaining 'noble' ones of his tribe. He ends up dead, and all the secrets come spilling out when his hotter than hell half brothers come knocking on our girl Kalina's door. Death be damned, teenage love is fickle. And she starts to fall for them both, Stuart and Jeagar. And surprise surprise, they fall for her too!

What ensues is a chase for Kalina's "special blood" which is special enough to kill, and her trysts with the half brothers of her dead lover. A very typical teen novella that was a lot of fun to read. Planning to buy the rest of the series now!

I liked this book, I found it by accident and decided to give it a try.
Some parts were a bit confusing, but if you stick with it, it makes sense.
I enjoyed it enough to go and buy the rest of the series. I've seen some people compare them to Vampire Diaries or True Blood, I've never watched nor read any of those books, so the story was new for me.
And when you turn one of my all time favorite members from Roman History into a vamp? I'm hooked.
I feel sorry for Jaegar and Stuart at times. Kailin is very much a teenage girl, and that shows in her decision making at times.
All in all, I enjoyed the book.
This is the second series I've picked up by Kailin Gow and even though her writings are geared for a much younger eye, I still found PULSE to be an encouraging start to a promising series. I felt that she did a good job bringing the characters to life in full color. The plot is a bit cliche (as with most vamp stories), but PULSE is not with out it's charms and unique twist that are sure to keep the young reader captivated. Kalina is the leading (human) lady in this vampire story and for once, a refreshing change, she is not the one enthralled and seeking the gorgeous vamp she cannot live without.. at least not at first. It is the vampires that are drawn to her and her "special" blood. Kalina is spunky, strong, smart and likeable as the heroin. There is a love triangle (this being the cliche) with her and the vampire Greystone brothers in which one is considered the good vamp and he other the bad... I personally really like the rough and dangerous Jaegar Greystone. I applaud the inclusion of a vampire priest and vampire wine which make for some unique and interesting twists. The reader is left with a nice enough cliffhanger of sorts, that is sure to have them continuing with the series.

Although Gow would do herself a service in finding a stronger editor (the multiple typos and minor discrepancies were distracting).. All in all, PULSE is an entertaining, easy read with strong enough characters that I found myself caring about them.
Wow! Great opening book for a series... I love vampire literature and this book is simply amazing! I could not put it down! This is the romantic story of Kalina, a teenage girl who loses to her boyfriend Aaron Greystone in an mysterious accident and then his two half brothers Stewart and Jaeger show up...and she discovers the fantastic world of vampires. Here starts a love triangle, they both love her but she only has the power to decide who to give her blood. I loved this book full of romance, action and fights.I will certainly soon read the second in the series and then the others.
PULSE by Kailen Gow probably offers some engaging material for many readers, but only if you're specifically interested in reading yet another high school vampire paranormal romance.

I personally find that even outside the context of this particular book, the whole vampire genre has become a little formulaic, and strayed so far from the great literary quality of Bram Stoker's seminal work Dracula.

I'm not sure if I would recommend this book to the average casual reader, but if you're really hung ho about vampires and teenage love triangles than I suppose it might provide a week's worth of bedtime entertainment.
Vampire fiction lovers have a treat in store for them with "Pulse." The plot is good, and I really liked the story line, its just the writing that needed some work, particularly the dialogue. Other than that if you are a fan of vampires, you will like this read! The characters are interesting and the love triangle between the main character Kalina and two brothers adds a twist to the vampire story. It did remind me a bit of Twilight so Twilight fans may like this book as well. The story has a good pace and keeps the reader engaged, even through a few scenes I thought the book could have done without. It didn't stop me from reading it though. This book is definitely geared towards YA and vampire fanatics. Overall a decent book, and I would read the next in the series.
I have always been into vampire stories, the fact of a wild romance between a simple mortal and this wonderful creature has always caught my attention, maybe it is because of the mystery that involves the way a human being and a vampire can interact between them. Pulse is an amazing book written by Kailin Gow that follows the story of Kalina a young girl that finds out that her boyfriend was a vampire and once he is dead, she gets to meet his half brothers who are vampires as well. I think this book has an amazing plot full of unexpected twists which is something that will keep you wanting to turn each page faster. I believe the author did a great job when it comes to the writing and development of this story for sure, I think that each character was unique in their own way and of course, maybe you will have a favorite character within this story, that is something that happened to me. If you are into vampire novels this one is going to be fine for you.
